Only vaccinated pilgrims will participate in this year’s Hajj, Saudi Government says

Saudi Arabia’s health ministry has said that only people, who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, will be allowed to attend the Hajj this year, Aljazeera reports.

According to a circular signed by the country’s Minister of Health, Tawfiq al-Rabiah, every pilgrim should have been inoculated before receiving a permit enter the Asian state.

The annual Hajj, which has been marred in the past by deadly stampedes, fires and riots, also saw a drastic reduction in the number of allowed pilgrims in 2020 as a result of Coronavirus.

Only about 1,000 Saudi citizens and residents were allowed to attend the holy exercise.
