Acting Chairman of Niger State Revenue Board, Alhaji Ahmad Garba Gunna, has now emerged the new Emir of Kagara.Gunna defeated five other candidates as an electoral college conducted by kingmakers of Kagara Emirate named him the new traditional head.
Others, who contested for the throne include Alhaji Muhammad Salihu Tanko, son of the late emir; Alhaji Garba Bako; Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Kusherki and Alhaji Idris Aliyu Jibrin.
Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani-Bello, on Wednesday announced the appointment of Gunna through the state Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji.
The governor said the appointment of the new emir complied with the state laws regarding the appointment and deposition of chieftains.
The former Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Salihu Tanko Kagara, died on March 1, 2021, after a protracted illness in Minna, the state capital.
Gunna held the traditional title of Dan Majen Kagara before he was appointed emir.
