Nigeria possesses all ingredients of a failed state –Ozekhome

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, has said that Nigeria was fast descending into a state of anarchy because President Muhammadu Buhari has handled the current crisis with passivity.

Ozekhome decried the recent attacks and extrajudicial killings that rocked the nation over the past week.

Ozekhome in a statement on Wednesday said that the President had been nowhere to be found amid the current insurgent attacks in the country.

He said, “Nigeria is not working. The fault lines are widening and deepening on a daily basis. There is anger, anguish, blood, sorrow, pains and pangs. Even those who initially ethnicised, parochialised, nepotised and tribalised Nigerians’ cry for redemption have now backslided because the chicken has finally come home to roost, the rich also now cry.

“There is a President missing in action. His capacity has been tested. Buhari has woefully failed Nigerians. Boko Haram has taken over large swaths of lands in Niger, Kaduna, Borno, and other northern states, planting their flags of sovereignty on the soil of a supposedly independent nation.

“Nigeria now possesses all the ingredients of a failed state. There is no leadership, no governance, no one in charge. We are fast drifting to the precipice. Inexorable.”

Buhari on Tuesday asked the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, to assist the country in fighting insurgency and banditry.
