Two persons killed, eight injured in Imo road accident

An accident involving a Mack truck and other vehicles led to the death of two persons and left eight others injured on Saturday at the Nkwo-mmiri Market under Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State.
The tragedy also led to the destruction of goods worth millions of naira.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Ikeokwu Orlando, said that the Mack truck, which was fully loaded with stone chippings, had brake failure and rammed into a bus and tricycle on the road.
He said, “On the 01/05/21, at about noon, a MACK truck loaded with stone chippings driven by one Mr. Kingsley Okwudili coming from Ebonyi State to Orlu, on getting to Nkwo Mmiri Market, as a result of brake  failure, ran into two vehicles, a Mitsubishi bus and one tricycle. As a result of which the three vehicles including the truck, tumbled and fell into the stream, while the stone chippings poured on some passersby.”
“The police rescued 10 severely injured persons but on getting to the hospital, two of the victims were confirmed dead,  while eight others with various degree of injuries were taken in for treatment.
“Meanwhile, the driver has been taken into custody as investigation has commenced.”
