Spanish International Sergio Ramos has been left out of the Euro squad by Luis Enrique, coach of the national team.

Manchester City defender, Aymeric Laporte, has been included in the squad ahead of Ramos.

The City defender was just this month cleared to represent Spain after switching nationality from France.

Another Man City player, Eric Garcia, was called up to the Euros squad despite not being a first-choice defender for his club all season.

Ramos, who could have broken the record for most international appearances, will have to wait for another opportunity to do so as his injury-plagued season with Real Madrid informed Enrique’s decision.

Egypt’s Ahmed Hassan, who has been capped 184 times with Egypt’s national team, holds the current record.

Also, surprisingly, there are no Real Madrid players in the 24-man squad named by the Spain coach.

According to Enrique, Ramos’ lack of game time due to multiple muscle injuries and a knee problem made it difficult to select him for the tournament.
