Vigilante, two others shot dead by suspected cultists in Ondo

Tragedy struck in Ondo State on Friday following the killing of a vigilante officer and two others during a cult-related clash.

The incident occurred at Oke Agunla in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The deceased persons were said to have been killed by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

Sources familiar with the matter said that the gunmen were putting on shirts with the inscription of DSS when they invaded the house of one Seun Akinsiku, popularly known as ‘Shewen’ within the area around 6:00pm.

One of the sources disclosed that as Shewen came out of the house, the suspects fired shots and killed him instantly.

“As Shewen came out of the house, the people shot him. As they were leaving, they also killed an officer of Amotekun,” he said.

The violent killings are suspected to be part of reprisal attacks between feuding cult groups in the area.

The Ondo State Public Relations Officer, Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident, saying that an investigation was ongoing.

Ikoro, clarifying that two people were killed by the gunmen, said that a manhunt had begun for the cultists.
