Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has tested positive for the coronavirus and his participation in Sunday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Italy is unclear.
Arsenal’s Xhaka missed Wednesday’s friendly against Greece after a PCR test result showed he had contracted the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
The Swiss federation said he was isolated after developing symptoms in the morning.

A first rapid test was negative but the PCR test conducted afterward was positive.

Another PCR test is scheduled for Thursday and that result should determine whether or not he can feature against Italy.
Health authorities allowed the Swiss team to play against Greece as scheduled because Xhake was isolated immediately.
All other players were either vaccinated or have recovered from a COVID-19 illness.
