The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has reported 49 fresh COVID-19 deaths in the country as infections shot up drastically.
Figures released by the centre for Saturday showed that the nation reported almost a thousand (964) new cases of COVID-19.
The latest statistics from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control indicates a sharp increase in the figure of both the newly confirmed cases and fatalities when compared to what was recorded 24 hours earlier.
Nigeria had on Friday recorded seven deaths from the pandemic and 456 cases.
On Saturday, Lagos posted a huge 456 fresh cases, while Ondo reported 180 cases and Edo, 66 cases.
The NCDC said the rise in Lagos’ cases was as a result of the backlog from 3rd (237), and 4th (219) September 2021.
Total confirmed COVID-19 cases now stand at 195,052, with 182,463 survivors discharged.
The Centre also attributed the rise in deaths to the backlog of 18 deaths reported for Lagos State for 30th August 2021.
However, new cases were reported in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
