A peddler truck conveying Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, went up in flames Wednesday morning, causing panic among residents and motorists.
AF24NEWS learnt the incident happened when the tanker was about to negotiate a bend in the Opebi, Ikeja area of Lagos.
Mrs Margaret Adeseye, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident and said crews were currently battling the inferno.
She said in a statement that the fire had been contained from spreading to residential areas.
She also confirmed no record of death or injury was recorded.
Adeseye said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is presently attending a fire emergency at Alfred Olaiya Estate, Salvation Bus Stop, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos.
“The fire which started at 0557 hours on Wednesday involved a peddler truck conveying AGO believed to be supplying a client within the vicinity when it reportedly fell on its side while negotiating a bend and erupted in fire.
“Two fire engines and crews are currently battling the inferno, which has been confined to the truck and salvaged from spreading to the residential neighbourhood posed no further threat.
“There is no record of death or injury as operational mop-up continues.”
