Ganduje pledges to sign judiciary financial autonomy bill into law

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has said he will sign into law the Kano State Judiciary Funds Management (Financial Autonomy) Bill 2021 to ensure effective administration of justice and judicial autonomy.

This is contained in a statement by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Ganduje, made available to newsmen in Kano on Monday.

Anwar said Ganduje made the promise during the Magistrates Association of Nigeria Annual Week 2021 held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

“I am happy the event is coming up at the time when the Kano State government is set to receive and sign into law the three very important Bills forwarded by the Kano State Judiciary to the Kano State House of Assembly for passage.

“These are Kano State Judiciary Funds Management (Financial Autonomy) Bill 2021, Kano State Magistrates, Shari’ah Court Judges and other Judiciary Staff (Harmonisation of Condition of Service) Bill, 2021 and Kano Multi-Door Court Bill, 2021”, he said.

He assured that as soon as the bills were passed by the State Assembly, he would not hesitate to assent to them and ensure full implementation.

“By passing the bills into laws, our commitment towards ensuring the independence as well as the financial autonomy of the judiciary will be sustained. This, therefore, demonstrates our goodwill and determination in promoting the rule of law, equity and fairness in the administration of justice in the state.”

He also promised to release funds to the Kano State Judiciary and Ministry of Justice to enable them to attend Nigerian Bar Association Conference by the Magistrates, Shari’ah Court Judges (who are called to the Bar) and State Council.

The state government would release N800 million for the purchase of vehicles to ease transportation difficulties faced by members of the judiciary.
