#EndSARS: Activists list events for memorial protests

Activists have listed the events lined up for the planned #EndSARS memorial protests.

Some flyers shared on social media show that the events will begin with a Jumat service on October 15 at Jumaat Suadr Central Mosque, Ojota, Lagos.

This will be followed by traditional rites on October 16 at the New Afrika Shrine in Agidingbi, Lagos.

On October 17, a church service will be held at Logos Christian Centre in Oregun, Lagos.

Memorial protests will also hold in major cities like Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Abuja.

The activists will also hold an event at the Lekki tollgate, Lagos on October 20.

This is despite the Lagos State Police Command’s warning against any form of #EndSARS protest, saying the state couldn’t afford a repeat of the destruction brought about by hoodlums who hijacked the protests last year.

The Lekki tollgate was the epicentre of the #EndSARS protests of October 2020, which were against police brutality and bad governance.

The location had youths airing their grievances day and night until they were dispersed by soldiers of the Nigerian Army on October 20.

Many reported that there were deaths after soldiers shot live bullets into the crowd. The Nigerian Army initially denied using live ammunition, but after a CNN investigation confirmed the use of live rounds, the army retracted their statement.

Tukur Yusuf Buratai, then Chief of Army Staff, claimed that the soldiers had merely used the live ammunition for warning shots into the air.
