Men of the Delta State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old man with a locally-made double-barrelled gun and 10 live cartridges.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, the teenager, Mamus Obine from Agbarho in Ughelli North LGA, was nabbed on Tuesday 21 December at about 10 am.
Edafe said that the arrest was made when officers attached to Eagle-net special squad went on a routine stop-and-search along Ughelli/Warri road, and intercepted a motorcycle with two male occupants.
On sighting the police, the passenger reportedly alighted from the motorcycle and ran into a nearby bush.
“They were given a hot chase which led to the arrest of the suspect named Mamus Obine aged 18 years from Agbarho in Ughelli North LGA, Delta State,” Edafe said.
“Upon searching the bag the suspect was carrying, one locally-made double-barrelled pistol and 10 live cartridges were recovered.
“Preliminary investigation later revealed that the suspect operated with two other suspects, namely Austin and Thankgod ( both surnames unknown).
“The suspect confessed that he was after one Kingsley whom he had issues of money sharing with after he defrauded his victim of the sum N800,000 from internet fraud and that he was about going to attack the said Kingsley with the gun when the police intercepted and arrested him.
“Investigation is on, while a manhunt for the other members of the gang is ongoing,” Edafe added.
