EPL: Liverpool’s domestic treble bid ends dramatically as City clench title by one point

Liverpool’s bid for a domestic treble was shattered despite their 3-1 win over Wolves on Sunday evening in the last game of the 2021/2022 English Premier League season.

Wolves took an early lead with Pedro Neto’s 3rd-minute strike. A long kick from Sa was brought down by Jimenez, who smashed the ball across the goal to an unmarked Neto to tap home.

However, Liverpool equalised in the 24th minute through Mane, who drove into the box and slid a shot over Sa to restore parity at Anfield.

Liverpool made it 2-1 through Mohammed Salah, who secured a 3rd golden boot in 5 years. The Reds would have held the advantage over City had the Manchester club not staged a late comeback to douse the hopes of Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The champions league finalists ended their season with a consolation 3-1 win, with Andy Robertson scoring their third goal in the 89th minute.

Klopp’s men will go into their Champions League final game vs Real Madrid with slightly doused excitement after falling short of their quadruple dreams despite securing a domestic double two weeks ago.

Liverpool missed out on the title by just one point, finishing with 92 points to City’s 93.
