My ordeal not too much a sacrifice for Igbo freedom – Nnamdi Kanu

By Henry Okonkwo

Founder and leader of the separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that the predicaments and torture he is passing through are “not too big a sacrifice” to free Igbos “bondage”.

Kanu, who has been in DSS custody since June 2021, expressed his intense love for the Igbos, lamenting the heinous activities perpetrated by bloodthirsty criminals in the South-East.

The IPOB leader who spoke through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, described the carnage in the South-East region as being committed by the enemies of Ndigbo, who have taken advantage of his temporary absence to unleash mayhem.

In a statement issued by his counsel and made available to AF24NEWS, Nnamdi Kanu consoled victims of these dastardly acts and urged everyone to join hands in fishing out these criminals.

The statement read, “As you were earlier informed, Onyendu’s case, which was earlier scheduled for Ruling/Hearing today, being the 26th day of May 2022, was adjourned to the 28th day of June 2022, and as such, Onyendu could not be in court today.

“The adjournment of his case formed the integral part of our briefing, as well as our readiness to await the all-important Ruling, now to be delivered on the 28th day of June, 2022. Nevertheless, Onyendu remained unshaken by this new twist, as he strongly believes that justice delayed is not justice denied.

“Further, Onyendu reiterated the fact that his present travail is not too big a sacrifice towards freeing his most cherished and loved Race from their present bondage. Hence, he implored all and sundry to remain resolute, firm and civilly guided in their actions and conducts as they have always been.

“It is pertinent to note that Onyendu was heartbroken by the news of the heinous activities of unscrupulous criminals in the South-East, as well as the senseless killings being carried out by these enemies of our people.

“Onyendu roundly condemned the barbaric activities of these criminals, and specifically directed me to make his position on the sacrilegious activities of these blood-sucking demons known to the public.

“Onyendu consequently extends his heartfelt condolences to the victims of these dastardly acts, and directed everyone to join hands in fishing out the culprits.

“Onyendu noted that he is being incarcerated today, and kept in solitary confinement, because he is advocating for the emancipation of our people, as he has not committed any offence known to Law. Therefore, he queried how the same people he is advancing the course of their freedom and protection from the invaders should be subjected to bloody assault by criminals who have no connection whatsoever with his freedom movement.

“Therefore, Onyendu has directed that all hands must be on deck to ensure an immediate end to this sacrilege.

“Onyendu was visibly traumatized by the narrated troubling situation in the South-East being created by the enemies of our people who are taking advantage of his temporary absence.

“It was noted that the activities of these criminals have given lawless “security agents” an excuse to unleash wanton bloodletting and destructions on our land. Onyendu also condemned this in clear and unmistaken terms.

“Furthermore, Onyendu has directed that there must be a total stop, and he meant STOP in every sense of it, of this rising insecurity and bloody siege on our land by these criminal elements.

“Onyendu admonished millions of his followers to be guided by the primary goal and never to derail. He commended Ezigbo UmuChineke for their solidarity and unflinching support.

“Also, he implores you all to remain focused and firm, as it is only a matter of time for you all to rejoice in the Faithfulness of His words – ‘maka na chi folu afọ efona nkwọ'”.

Speaking on legal tussles ahead, IPOB’s lawyer, Ejiofor hinted that they are poised to pursue the release of Mrs. Ukamaka Ejezie a.k.a Mama Biafra.

Recall that Kanu on Tuesday called for the release of Mrs Ejezie, a newspaper vendor, that was reportedly arrested in Abuja when she came to solidarise with him at the court.

“The opportunity presented by the visit enabled us to explore internal mechanism to press strongly for the immediate release of Mrs. Ukamaka Ejezie (Mama Biafra).

“Be assured that she will regain her freedom within the shortest possible time. The details of this engagement will remain private.

“Onyendu thanked millions of you all, his followers for your resoluteness and civility, and empathized with those who sustained injuries following unprovoked attack by security Agents, during his last court appearance. These sacrifices are not taken for granted. He appreciates you all.

“Moreso, Onyendu noted that your prayers have been impactful, and encouraged you all never to relent.

“We, in the legal team deeply appreciate you all for standing shoulder to shoulder with us, as we hope for better days ahead. Your support remains motivating, and we deeply appreciate you all, Ezigbo Umuchineke,” the statement added.
