Imo killings: Victims killed by DSS were ESN members, suspect alleges


Chinonso Mmerem, an alleged member of the Eastern Security Network of the Indigenous People of Biafra revealed that the victims reportedly killed on Sunday were members of ESN killed at their camp.

Mmerem disclosed when he was paraded by Department of State Service at Owerri, Imo State capital.


According to the suspect, he led the DSS to their camps at Awomama where some leaders of the group were killed.


Mmerem, while answering questions from newsmen, confessed that the victims were all members of IPOB.

He said, “I am Chinonso Mmerem,I led the DSS to the ESN camp at Awomama, I was caught a week ago by the security agents, on Sunday I led them to the camp where they were having meetings against Monday for the sit-at-home.

“Some of the members were shot, including ‘One man’ squad who is our leader at Awomama, although he did not die,he escaped with bullet wounds but his phone was retrieved by the DSS”.

Meanwhile, DSS has insisted that the victims killed on Sunday were members of ESN and not guests from a wedding ceremony as widely reported.
