Following the call-off of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, it has been confirmed that the Federal Government only paid staff for 18 working days in the month of October.
Lecturers and senior members of ASUU told local reporters that the government only paid half salaries.
Recall that ASUU had on October 14 called off an eight-month-long strike which began on February 14, 2022.
Lecturers had been encouraged to resume work by the union on that same day.
A senior member of ASUU’s National Executive Council told The PUNCH that members were paid only for the days after the strike.
“We were only paid for the days after the strike. I received a half salary. Other members are angry right now, they are blaming the NEC for calling off the strike,” he said.
Confirming the development, another member accused the government of attempting “to kill unionism in the country.”
